Our Vision to support each other as friends and to aim to be of assistance to those in need is apparent in Our Work. Our Work in Blue River is to support the local community through financial assistance in four key areas.
1. Sickness 2. Accidents 3. Education & Sports 4. Donations
Hello Brothers & Sisters! It's 2022 and we are back in our happy place heliskiing in the mountains and we are safely hosting our weekly Bruderschaft meetings under the stars beside Eleanor Lake. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Spring brings growth and development and it also brings a new team to the Bruderschaft board table. Neil MacGillivary, President, and original board members Norm Crerar and Steve Podborski are excited to welcome new board members; Kathleen Dixon of Calgary, Valerie Wolf of Blue River, Nathan Matthew of Barriere and John Birrell of Cranbook.
Frank Antoine is a local First Nations entrepreneur and friend of MWHS from Kamloops. Frank was the skipper of our MWHS canoe team a couple summers ago when we joined the Simpcw canoe trip down North Thompson river. In June of 2019 Riel, then 7-months-old, underwent surgery to remove a brain tumour. Most of the mass was removed, but some remained in the brain stem after surgery. Riel suffered a bone infection after his first surgery and pathology results diagnosed him with cancer. His cancer is one of the rarest forms of cancer therefore, he is the only kid fighting this in the world. He currently has no bone in the back of his head from infection. Riel started chemo treatment August long weekend 2019. Another brain surgery took place January 22, 2020 to remove more of the mass. Pathology determined that Riel's remaining mass still was still cancerous after 5 rounds of chemo. He then had a stem cell transplant in March 2020. The transplant was very hard for Riel but he is a fighter. He has trouble eating from the transplant, so he mainly drinks smoothies. Riel has started to endure 6-7 cycles of chemo treatment at BC Children’s Hospital.
Children from the Clearwater, Barriere, Heffley Creek and Blue River have the opportunity to participate in the Annual Andy Aufschnaiter Memorial X-Country Ski Race. It is a special event for these children to be able to compete in a fun outdoor activity and to be hosted to a lunch and award ceremony at the Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing Resort.
The Blue River X-Country trails are the focus of significant developments and now offer over 11kms of routes and loops for both the Beginner and Intermediate levels. All trails are marked and are groomed and tracked for both skate skiing and classic skiing. Download the Nordic Skiing & Snowshoe Trail Map. View past media coverage and images here:
